News from the AzSA Leadership

Dear AzSA members,

June was a month of Commencement speeches. Many of us listened as speakers exhorted young graduates with advice such as “follow your passion”, “chart your own course”, “march to a different drummer”, “make the world a better place” and even “you are not special”.

I heard a speaker give a somewhat different Commencement message in which the new graduates were encouraged to preserve the values and safeguard the future of their university. They were exhorted to “Stay connected. When you are connected, you have a stake. When you have a stake, you have a voice”.

Now more than ever, anesthesiologists must preserve the values and safeguard the future of our specialty. I urge you to stay connected – to AzSA, ASA, and your state and national representatives. When you are connected, you have a stake. When you have a stake, you have a voice. The future of our specialty depends upon maintaining this connection.

Carol Peairs, MD
President AzSA
